Hexbugs – Amazing Micro Robots
Monday, November 15th, 2010Hi-tech, cute and clever, Hexbugs are the coolest micro robots we’ve ever seen! Hexbugs are autonomous robot bugs that are awesome to play with. These brightly coloured micro robots are great fun and they are a great way to get kids interested in robotics.
Each Hexbug bumbles along until it finds an obstacle or hears a loud noise. Its sensors allow it to locate the sound or obstacle and it will retreat and try a new direction, wandering off to explore any environment. You can watch them navigate mazes, direct them with sound or let them interact in their own special way. Hexbugs might look cute and silly but they contain some advanced micro robotics. Their walking legs mimic the actions of a real insect and the way they move is just awesome.
Hexbug Nano
The Hexbug Nano is possibly the smallest toy robot around. This cool little bug has a unique walking motion and it even flips itself over! While the original Hexbugs walk on six stepping legs, the Nanos use a rocking motion to scurry around like real bugs. They have a tiny motor that creates upwards and downwards force, causing the legs to straighten and bend. Combined with the clever shape of the carapace, this also allows them to flip over – try putting a Hexbug Nano on its back to see it in action! Hexbug Nanos are even better when you put a few of them together and they cleverly navigate mazes and complex environments.
Hexbugs Habitats
Nano Hexbugs are able to navigate mazes and you can get an amazing range of Hexbug habitats to challenge them. All the Hexbug habitats are modular, so you can endlessly reconfigure them and combine different kits to create new layouts. You can also build your own habitats from scratch and challenge your new robotic pets to overcome all sorts of cool challenges.
